British conventions have a tradition of drinking the hotel bar dry. At last year's Worldcon, fans set a new record -- they drank the brewery dry. Yes, they were proud. I only regret that I wasn't there to help.

But surely Glasgow has recovered by now. Or so I thought until Tweeting Birds #9 reported that the members of Concussion, this year's Eastercon, ate the hotel out of...butter.

And ketchup, too, apparently. For the 4-part harmony on the ketchup and other news from Concussion, see the the full run of Tweeting Birds.

That's overstating things slightly.

We drank the brewery dry of a three-week supply of Kilburn "Dark Moor." All that was left in Glasgow was what had been already delivered to other pubs. I believe we drank the Goat House out of 4 of the remaining 5 Kilburn Ales, and we may have drunk them dry of all of them. When I left, there was still a few casks of "Goldi-hops" on the rack.

Yes, but was there any butter left?

And thanks for the clarifying details on consumption at the Interaction Fan Lounge. I knew the three-week supply part, and that there was still some bheer available, but not the specifics on just how many of the brewery's offerings y'all had gone through.

Yep - there were still two casks with Goldi-hops in them left when the bar shut. I've a vague memory that one was a bit cloudy - maybe had been lifted down and put back a bit quickly, or tipped forward too suddenly (which would imply that it was nearly done).

If they'd done the beer festival thing of having 2l plastic bottles available, it's quite possible they'd have finished what they had, but that could have backfired. As it was, there were still folk left who wanted to buy beer at closing time, but by then you needed a room key and not just a con badge....

And don't forget the "BASFA" meeting, where Mr. Frank Wu spilled my beer all over my pants ::sniff::... (He was gentlemanly enough to buy me another).
We must account for spillage as well as drinkage...

I wonder if the ketchup was used for zombies. I believe [livejournal.com profile] hawkida said there was a horde of zombies.
