I knew I lived in the boonies...
Oct. 9th, 2006 11:33 am...but I'm still surprised that someone could be missing for 4 days just 30 feet off one of the busier roads I travel regularly.
And even though Monson is just five miles from Toad Woods, I learned about the accident on the international edition of CNN.com.
Freak situations like this one are the reason I carry my cell phone when working in my yard or tromping around my woods, which are far more remote than running off any nearby section of Hwy 32. They're also one of the reasons I recently traded in for the same model I had, with analog roam, rather than upgrading to an all-digital model. The news article reported that the guy didn't have a cell phone; it didn't mention that a cell phone might well have not done him any good, though coverage is better in Monson than it is here in Wales.

Date: 2006-10-09 08:35 pm (UTC)Believe me, if I were visiting the UK again, it would be anything but secret! I miss the people far more than I miss the land. Now that I've moved to Wales, I feel I must visit the one on your side of the Pond the next time I manage to make it over. So far, I've only made it to England, Northern Ireland, and Scotland.
P.S. Great icon

Date: 2006-10-09 08:28 pm (UTC)Much to my pleasant surprise, Sprint service has improved here considerably over the last two years. While it's still nothing to brag about, I no longer have to go halfway up the drive to place a phone call. Of course, as soon as I pull out my phone to see if I still have the 3 bars of coverage I saw earlier today, it shows none.
Now *4 bars*...now *zero* -- it's how you can tell I'm posting from Wales.
