Still raining. Wind's picked up again, too.

The Zeppelin Hanger shows no signs of sliding down the hill into the swampy bits, so I guess I'm okay. I'm trying to remember if I've ever before seen this many days with this much rain anywhere I've lived. Don't think so. It's remarkable. And remarkably wet.

Of course. Several zeppelins, as a matter of fact. Of course, getting the metal ones to fly is a tad tricky. Especially the cast iron one.

cool and drier (but still grey) weather heading your way ... I do believe some sidewalks here have actually dried off!

Yuch

Back home in South Africa has very little rainfall and mild weather overall, and as a result we are an intensely outdoors and sporty people. Here in Mississippi I have often experienced weeks of overcast and rain -- horrible!

Um, er, maybe. You have more far more experience with the New England autumn beastie than I do, but it's not just that it's rained for several days in a row, with more rainy days directly ahead. It's that we've already received twice the state's average rainfall for this month, and are predicted to end up with 3-4 times the month's average within the first half of the month.

To my eyes, the rain we're currently having here is like the woman in Arkansas who just gave birth to her 16th child and is thinking about having more. Seven kids, that's a big family, with lots of kids. Eight to ten kids? That, too, is a lot of kids, a bigger lot. But 16 kids...that's an eye-popping lot of kids. New England is getting an eye-popping lot of rain right now.

I wonder how many years that average covers, and how it would change if it were trimmed to the latest 50, 25, ... years. Not to mention that we don't \usually/ have a tropical storm coming through in the second week of October -- and the weather since has been more like early November. Why, you could feel right at home this winter....

When I started going away to school, I found that the most important item of furniture was a wastebasket. When I came to this area for college, I found that the most important item of clothing was an umbrella. Boots are nice, but with an umbrella you can walk around the flooded blocks (which were much more common before they got the sewers sorted out), while boots don't protect you from drenches. In other words, it can get seriously wet here -- it just is more likely a little later in the year.

It seems that it has been raining longer than usual in your neck of the woods. It looks like it is letting up, which is a Good Thing, because it sounds as if the whole Northeast has gotten Too Much Rain.

To cheer you up, you should be expecting a UPS parcel next week. Please follow directions on the wrapper. I found the THING I wanted just for YOU.

Margene sez she has your address. I'll check if it's compatible with UPS, and email you if not. (someone at Fencon bought a Patron level, I got all ready to send it from work via ups and realized they'd given us a PO Box... now I have to take to my post office).
