If I had a spare 15 minutes...
Nov. 30th, 2007 01:37 am...I'd choose sleep over fame right now. Unless that fame came from discovering a way to turn 15 minutes into the 15 days I really wish I had in my hip pocket 'cause I sure could use it between now and next Wednesday.
I didn't let simple facts or preferences stop me from returning last night's call from a reporter for the Springfield Republican wanting to talk with me about winning a Hugo. He'd done enough homework to know that fanzines go back a long way, and we had a chatty, pleasant conversation. Don't know how much will end up in print, but I enjoyed talking with him and followed up our call with several links to topics we'd discussed.
fringefaan, I pointed him at the articles about you in the two UW publications.
Near the end of the conversation, the reporter told me about another story he covered here in Wales this past August. It seems there's a LARPer from eastern Massachusetts who was buying property here in Wales. He intends to open a camp and run a LARP on summer weekends. He apparently presented his building plans and such to the town's planning board in June -- the reporter said some people weren't any too pleased by the notion, but IIUC, the whole thing was approved. I'm not a LARPer myself, but I'd be pleased and amused to have more like-minded folks around. The guy appears to have a good deal of experience under his belt -- he created Aralis a few years back. It sounds like Aralis2 is going strong, and that there are already at least a couple of LARP camps scattered around Massachusetts. Neat.
judith_dascoyne or anybody else here, have you ever heard of Aralis or know David S. Chapin? Color me curious....
If the Hugo story appears, it should be on a Wednesday, in a community section The Republican publishes weekly. The reporter said he'd let me know when it runs. And I'll do likewise here.
If they run the photo I sent,
benveniste will have another print credit to his name.

Date: 2007-12-01 07:36 pm (UTC)While I'd never turn down an extra 15 days, it's considerably more than the 2-3 days I find myself wishing for pretty much anytime I'm facing a deadline or event.
On the taking it easy front, and taking care of myself along the way, I started celebrating Bathtub Party Day early with a Lush Avobath bomb this morning (mmmm....lemongrass; mmmm...smooth skin). Then I stopped for a walk at Conant Brook Dam on my way home from the bank and dry cleaners. Now it's time to work, work, work. And to keep enjoying the day in the process.
Thanks for your excellent advice. It's spot on all the way through. Damn straight! Being in London beats working at Home Depot in my book, too.
