Something has been flying around my living room and occasionally darting into the small front entry area (at the base of the stairs) and the dining area on and off for most of an hour now.

Whatever it is, it's fast! Since I don't know for sure it isn't a bat, I'm still operating under the assumption that it could well be. Thank goodness for Batwrangler's tips!

To me, the real question is how will I know when it's flown out one of the open doors? Presuming it does, that is. It's fine if I see it fly out, but I doubt I'll be that lucky.

The other real question of course is how the darned thing got in. One of the chimneys, maybe. I rather hope so, 'cause I hope I don't have any unknown holes in my house.

Fly away, whatever you are! Fly away from my home!

Chimneys are funny. Over the past few years my mom has rescued more than a couple of flying things from the inside of her wood stove in her living room. She gets off easy because the stove has doors on the front.

Best of luck with whatever it is.:)

When you next get your chimney swept, you might ask the sweeps if there are any tears in your covering. But even without tears, the little buggers can sometimes get in if they hit the sucker just right.

Well, it could be different

I *still* remember rescuing the dove out of the exhaust vent for the boiler. Which left it free to roam in the basement, until I captured it and released it outdoors.

We had birds in our house in Statesboro a couple of times. Once there was a bird chirping behind the gas heater in the fireplace. I moved some grate and it flew out into our living room, hit a wall, lay quivering until I was a couple of inches from it, then it flew to the next wall. Repeat multiple times. We finally shut off all the lights inside -- it was getting dark -- and turned on the porch light, and it navigated on out by itself.
