As far as I know, Jack WINOLJ won't have net connectivity until he gets here late Sunday afternoon. I'll be in Somerville for the NESFA meeting when he arrives, but a surprise awaits him and since he's not on LJ, I can tell all of you what it is.

He'll arrive to find not one but two empty parking spaces in the garage! Mine, and one for him. Presuming his car fits, and All That Jazz....

Doesn't sound like a big deal, does it? Two car garages should have room to park two cars. But those who have visited Toad Woods know that I've been using the second parking space in my garage for other things ever since I moved in. It serves as the supplemental, convenient basement, especially since the unfinished area in my real basement is small. [livejournal.com profile] calimac will have the best appreciation for how much work went into creating that parking space; he saw the utter chaos that reigned most of seven weeks ago. It's as if the de-cluttering crew from Clean Sweep or one of the other messy house rescue shows came by. Only I don't have any spiff new storage cabinets along the walls, and it took me several work sessions to accomplish it on my own.

Okay, there is a pile of boxes on the stair landing that don't belong there. Some of them will go to Mark and [livejournal.com profile] nesfan to pack art. Jack may use some of them to pack glass he finds next week at Brimfield. (Short description: "The Brimfield Antiques Show is the largest outdoor antiques show in the world, with over 6,000 dealers and 130,000+ visitors during the course of the week. While it is convenient to refer to it as "The Show", it is actually comprised of 23 fields, owned by "Promoters", who lease spaces to dealers from all over the world. The Show takes place three times a year.")

The garage isn't perfect, but the results are deeply satisfying. Whoohoo!

I doubt that the parking space will remain empty for the entire summer after Jack leaves, but I do hope to be able to reclaim it with ease in time for [livejournal.com profile] fredcritter and family to park there when they visit in August. That should be a matter of tucking the lawnmower back into the not-using-it space I created for now, moving a utility chair, and perhaps taking down a work table.

Okay, that's almost certainly an understatement. Stuff will accumulate there; it's too convenient a space for it not to. But it'll be three months of stuff, not three years.

Onward!
