On May 14th, I'll celebrate my third anniversary in Toad Woods. I still like it here. A lot.

[livejournal.com profile] nesfan and Mark WINOLJ are in the process of moving now. Helping them brings back memories of all who helped me move out of Toad Hall and into The Zeppelin Hanger here at Toad Woods. [livejournal.com profile] elaine_brennan was there at both ends! Joe and Edie gave me a homebase for the duration. [livejournal.com profile] galacticvoyeur lent me the use of his house when I needed to prepare 51 boxes for shipping -- half to [livejournal.com profile] debgeisler and [livejournal.com profile] benveniste's and the other half to Fanhihall. Dozens more helped pack and also gave Toad Hall the very best housecooling party possible while friends from at least six states and one foreign country visited Toad Woods in the first four months I lived here.

So why am I posting this today rather than ten days from now? Because of the wondrous [livejournal.com profile] minnehaha K., that's why. Because of K. and the Marvelous Moving Notes.

Yep. I just found another. I've been cleaning the garage -- after three years, it needed it! Okay, it wasn't the first time I've cleaned the garage. For me, that's pretty much an annual affair, with a minor re-arrangement come winter, when I don't need to get to the lawnmower any more. But in all of the chaos and travels of last year, the garage went untended, and the clutter had piled up well beyond my comfort level. So I've been having at it.

In an effort to make more room, I'm breaking down some of the large dish-pack boxes that double well as a work surface when lined up in a row. One was filled with crumbled newspaper from unpacking. I was flattening that out for recycling when I came across a note that went unnoticed in the original unpacking:

"Geri, we all miss you already & you haven't left yet. :-)"

So sweet. I loved all the the notes; they were the best. They still are. I miss [livejournal.com profile] minnehaha K. and other Minnesota friends, too. I'm glad we had time together last month and I look forward to good times in Minneapolis and Winnipeg this summer.

This might have been the last Marvelous Moving Note I'll find, but I wouldn't bet on it. Thank you, K! Thank you everyone who played along!

Mark and P.O. are moving? I hadn't heard! What's the new place like?

I've only seen photos and the real estate listing so far. Nearly twice as big as their current home, sunroom, vaulted wood ceilings darned near everywhere, contemporary design. Huge basement -- room for the whole library and more. Lovely, lovely lot that's about two-thirds of an acre. A couple of raised beds in the back and a rocky ridge, large front yard that's currently all lawn. I look forward to seeing what they do with it over the years to come. Something like 3.5 miles closer to Toad Woods than their current home.

They close on it at the end of June; they're hoping to put their house on the market in another week or so. They've filled two PODS so far, and I'm going over in the morning to deliver a load of boxes and help pack the third POD.

P.O. is planning to transplant several of the treasures in her garden. Her double bloodroots are amazingly full. They look like quadruple bloodroots!

I keep meaning to tell you that I used the expression "Zeppelin Hangar" in a cartoon I sketched back in the 90s. A public radio announcer in a studio: "The last hour of classical music has been funded in part by our good friends at the Zeppelin Hangar Head Shop. Have you ever..."

:-)

I do wonder if they've stopped finding notes in your old house, too.

K.

I doubt it! There's a good chance the time capsule note won't be found for another 50-100 years. Thank goodness [livejournal.com profile] dd_b documented it with photographs. Thanks for letting me scan it, too! You're the best, dear. That was inspired.

I wonder if they found the bottle of grenadine before it started breeding. Probably -- they painted the kitchen in the first couple of weeks they were there.
