Pistachio buttercream.

It serves as the filling for the sandwich-cookie-style pistachio macaroons I made for the "Welcome the Homeless" party Joe & Edie are hosting for me tonight. It's also utterly yummy, as are the finished cookies themselves.

There are 18 hard boiled eggs in the fridge that I'll turn into deviled eggs shortly before party time. I'm thinking of adding crabmeat to the filling on some of them, just to see what it's like.

It should be a good end to a good week. Mortgage qualification is in great shape, and my Realtor is setting up appointments to show me several houses I'm interested in early next week. Fingers crossed....

More words, put together a new way: Curried coconut with chicken and rice soup. Found at Stew Leonard's, a marketing-concept grocery store in Yonkers. They've apparently got a couple of other locations, too, and I need to track them down. The farm fresh concept is more than a bit overdone, but I loved the food selection. Dozens of interesting soups, and if the others are even half as tasty as the one we had tonight, well, life will be fine indeed. Then there was the "Bone Suckin'" barbecue sauce, again, utterly yummy. Definitely on the sweet side, but with lots of flavor complexity and a mild but satisfying zing.

Orangina was on sale for a small fraction of what I've previously seen it at. I must remember to never go to Stew Leonard's when I'm sleep deprived. Until I win the lottery, anyway, and even then it would be dangerous as I'd probably try to buy the whole store and doing that is just not on my career path.

Pistachio buttercream. Life is good. Staying with friends who have this many cookbooks, and the kitchen tools to support their contents, is good.

IIRC, [livejournal.com profile] redbird will be able to report back on the macaroons, and on the buffalo jerky Joe made. Ditto that for [livejournal.com profile] supergee, [livejournal.com profile] nellorat, and other friends, too. I'm looking forward to it!

And you without your Cooky Book, which I am k/e/e/p/i/n/g/ going to send to you the very moment you want it, whether now or after you get your new house.

Tell about your party, hey.

And here I didn't even know/remember yet that you still had The Most Important Cookbook In My Collection. Thanks for the safekeeping.

Here's the plan on that: Cookie Book. Minicon. Geri. Hand the Cookie Book to Geri at Minicon. With all of the pages intact, including the one with the orange drops, best when Clementines are substituted for the oranges.

As for the party, fab. Excellent company, good variety of people. Priscilla Olson said she hadn't stayed up that late (roughly 2:30am) since MidAmericon. Pool sharks in the basement, Susan Palermo and I reviving our MilPhil bonding experience with a bathroom party: "Gonna wash that man right outta my hair!" A bit of catching up with [livejournal.com profile] redbird and <"LJ user="Cattitude">, the luxury of being able to just sit and look at [livejournal.com profile] supergee -- didn't even have time for that at Minicon when he was a GoH. And bunches more.

Larry Gelfand helped me get my laptop net connection working from OSX, and email, too. Nice that the one person I hadn't previously met just so happens to be a Mac wizard who lives just 10 miles down the road, and, more importantly, is easy to work with.

No more party natter now -- I'm meeting my Realtor for a day of house shopping, and must get on the road to that appointment rather soonish.

Film at 11.
