I'm finally moved in for my first visit and stay at the Westin Waterfront, Boston. A day late, thanks to the ice storm, and what feels like a lifetime later. At first encounter, I utterly love the new hotel. Yes, the sleeping rooms are small. But they're lush, and I like that. We ended up with a bit of extra space, which it also tremendously useful, especially considering the two full bellcarts of stuff I had moved up to the room a few hours ago.

"What on earth?" Ben asked.

I didn't reply, "Just about everything," but I could have. There are fanzines -- including Steve Stiles TAFF report, if anyone here would like a copy for $6 to TAFF. There are mailing tubes for the posters I created commemorating the "The Astounding Art of Hubert Rogers" exhibition in the art show. And three thin boxes holding the posters themselves. The posters will be available in the Print Shop; I'm pleased with how they came out.

Then there's the box of 3 handouts about Hubert Rogers and his art. Copy by Chris Couch; scans and photos by Liz Rogers and me, with special thanks to [livejournal.com profile] benveniste for the loan of his Nikon D200 digital camera. Ditto those thanks on the posters, too!

And Rover, [livejournal.com profile] debgeisler's Hellmutt. I do hope Fido got packed on the truck, or that Suford's bringing him in. For those who were at the Boskone party at Arisia, Fido greeted you at the door. Rover is his twin brother.

But wait, all that stuff only filled up one of the bellcarts. There's the blue bin of prezzies, the necklace I hope to have repaired, random silly stuff for Boskone (parrot visors, anyone?), paper trimmer and burnishers for the finishing work on the handouts, food for tonight's SBOF, knitting projects du jour, my monkey (cause he's furry -- well, hairy -- and wants to join the Great Tribble Hunt thinking he just might find some long-lost cousins), fresh flowers ('cause I especially like 'em in hotel rooms and life has been way, way, way, WAY too stressful this last week and more), my computer and work files, and...yes...luggage with clothes and such for the convention.

"And such" includes some Lush bubble bars and bath bombs. I'm going to indulge for a bit before heading downstairs and seeing what the rest of this hotel is like. So far, the staff has been exceptionally welcoming, and there are all sorts of touches large and small that reach into my hind brain and whisper "relax." And that's after seeing just the lobby and our room!

Yep, I think I like it here.

I'm glad to hear that stuff is nice :-)

I'm coming up tomorrow and my gf (who was one of [livejournal.com profile] sdn's Princeton kids when she was in highschool) is meeting me up there :-)

Hope to maybe catch you for 2 seconds this weekend!

I have now Lushed myself as well ... not only did I have lots of bubbles and purple water, but I have a good sized chunk of bath bar left!

And now to bed ....

I have mixed feelings about this hotel, notably the lack of close-by restaurants, the fact the bar isn't open until 4 (though I didn't realize that the restaurant has a separate bar, so that mitigates that situation a bit). However, I like the size of our room, the hallways are reasonably wide and there's lots of soft chairs and couches around. However, I certainly appreciate the free wifi in the lobby!

One thing I like about this hotel: It's much easier to get to by car than the Sheraton was!

Or at least, it's a lot easier to get to coming south on I-93 from and returning north on I-93 (as opposed to what's still happening trying to get from the Back Bay heading north on I-93 and getting detoured all through Cambridge and Somerville and Charleston because the entrance ramp from Storrow Drive is blocked off by cop cars when it's not commuter hours...).

Someday, maybe, the traffic routing in Boston with stop mutating on a daily or more frequent basis. It would be nice (see "detoured" above).
