1400 miles and one snowstorm later

gerisullivanI arrived at Fanhihall, my temporary homebase, just before 7pm Thursday evening. The drive was surprisingly enjoyable, even the part where I was pretty much snowed in last night in Clarion, PA. The roads were clear by the time I left Clarion, so the last 350 miles weren't the ordeal they so easily could have been.
The first seven boxes (shipped last from Minnesota, but by speedier means) arrived here Wednesday. The next 26 are due Friday -- a spot-check of the FedEx tracking system shows they're either at their destination FedEx location, or that they've departed the sorting facility immediately before getting to their destination location, so I'm rather expecting they'll be on a truck pulling into the driveway here just a few more hours from now. I don't suppose I can tell 'em to wait until it's warmed up to deliver them....
The car is partially unpacked; I hope I removed everything that would be damaged by freezing. Will likely finish that tomorrow, too, though George may stay in there for a couple of days yet...or even for the duration. Doesn't everybody go toodling around town running their daily errands with a large, concrete frog in their back seat?
Beside the addition of an unexpected traveling companion (the aforementioned George), the trip yielded one marriage proposal (from a non-fan none of you know who suggested solving the health insurance issue that way), some extremely supportive offers and comments from my sister, and more fun to look forward to at ConFusion. Plenty o'adventure, you betcha.
Onward. I may even be a little bit settled in before I fly away to Detroit in a little under a week. Looking forward to seeing several of you there!

Date: 2004-01-20 07:03 pm (UTC)It was typical Minnesota cold when I arrived, but the locals are now complaining about how cold it is, with the temperature in the high teens and low twenties. The last few inches of snow haven't melted yet, so it at least *looks* like winter outside. I especially liked the part where the three deer wandered through the side yard yesterday.
(Yes, I know, they'll eat things I don't want eaten.)
