Last week, roofing guy cut off the dangling gutter and dropped off two replacement fascia/soffit boards for me to paint before using them to replace the rotted boards. It's much easier to paint 16' boards before they're nailed in place and I'll take painting boards that are resting on packing-box sawhorses over the upside-down strokes of painting soffits any day.

All of the primer went on Monday and Tuesday. It was bright and sunny an hour ago when I went out to add the top coat to one side and all of the edges. One little white fluffy cloud in the sky. Sure, there was some thunder in the distance, but that happens with high heat, so I kept on painting.

By the time I was finished, the sky was black and the lights flickering inside. Outside, the temperature had dropped from 91 to 85 during the short time I was painting. My, that came in fast. When I went out to confirm the length of the boards while writing the first paragraph, I felt just a drop or two of rain in the air. Now it's a steady downpour, with increasing intensity. The lights are flickering more. The cool breeze coming through the window screen feels good -- yep, the temp is already down to 80.

There's no way the paint dried enough to withstand this. The cardboard packing box sawhorses probably aren't long for this world anymore, either.

Good thing I have plenty of paint for another layer.
