With the exception of my reaction to my father's new health problems, I'm having a marvelous multi-vacation trip. Alas, it looks like I'll be on dial-up for most of the rest of it, so the photos from yesterday's visit to Millennium Park will have to wait. In the meanwhile, Google Images will give you a better taste of Anish Kapoor's Cloud Gate sculpture (aka "The Bean") than my own pictures eventually will. It's stunning, and watching people interacting with it is as good as looking at the sculpture itself.

The first few days of my Minneapolis visit can be seen through the eyes of Susie, the Traveling PEZ Dispenser. Susie is traveling the world raising breast cancer awareness and raising funds for breast cancer research. It was great fun having her catch up with me in Minneapolis. Scroll down to the bottom of Susie's journal, then check out the photo section>. Good times.

Jack WINOLJ and I are hosting a BBQ this afternoon in celebration of our "Not-A-20th Anniversary." Our good times and then some began at Not-A-D-Con 20 years ago this very weekend. Goshwow. This "unniversary," as John D. Berry called it, brings with it strong reminders of how different -- and how very much more interesting -- my life is compared to what I thought it would be when I was a child.

Onward.

Happy...

Wow, small world. There's a picture of Hideko at the Farmer's Market with Susan among your pictures of Susie's trip.

Hideko has known me since I was (literally) a little girl and she and her husband Ben were at my wedding (and reception).

Yep! The subject came up while we were talking with her.

You'll probably know the answer to this -- I went with the "Hide-Ko Gowan" spelling of her name because that was what was stitched on the side of her hat. But Susan thought it was "Hideko," just like you typed it. Is "Hide-Ko" a correct variation, or a mistake on the part of the hat-maker?

Funny. I've gotta stop out to see their gardens sometime soon, I got out of the habit when I was living out of state and so hadn't seen her and Ben in way too long 'til the wedding.

I've not had many occasions to actually write her name, but always thought it was Hideko and I think I probably saw it that way at some point in iris society publications and whatnot. At least that's how I wrote it for the wedding invitation. Last name is Gowen, that part I'm sure of.
