Not-A-Worldcon Update
Aug. 29th, 2005 06:29 pmIt's looking good! The following folks have been in touch to let me know they plan to be at one or more Not-A-Worldcon events this coming weekend: Larry Sanderson, Patrick & Teresa Nielsen Hayden, Ben Yalow, Chris Couch, Joe & Gay Haldeman, Joe Siclari & Edie Stern, and our newest western Massachusetts residents: Kip Williams, Cathy Doyle, & Sarah Williams. Plus many of the usual suspects and then some from NESFA, MCFI, and other Boston area fan groups.
If you're planning to come to any of the parties or outings and haven't replied yet, please touch base with me and/or our other hosts over the next few days — it will help a lot with our final plans. Thank you!
Special notes & reminders: People going to the Potluck BBQ at Mark and Priscilla Olson's should park in their driveway or across the street. Their side of the street is currently no parking; Mark is checking with the town officials to confirm where it's okay to park.
If you're coming to the casual party at Toad Woods on Friday night, please bring a snack or drink to share. I took a look through the cupboards in anticipation of the Friday night foraging campaign and figure there's only so much toffee butter popcorn even fans can devour. Maybe we really are gonna starve….
RSVPs are the only thing you need to do for the Sunday brunch at Deb Geisler and Mike Benveniste's. Please don't bring any food to share; thanks!
Reaching far and wide: Saturday is Points West Day. Don Fitch will be representing Not-A-Worldcon in the far, far west at the Dim Sum Expedition (probably to the Los Angeles Chinatown) that LArea fan/artist Selina Phanara is organizing. Starting time: about 10 am (Pacific Time). Please contact
don_fitch for further specifics.
In the not-so-far west, but still 1,000 miles beyond the western edge of Massachusetts, there's a possibility that some Minn-stf members may venture forth from the Minn-stf meeting at Sharon Kahn and Richard Tatge's Dreampark for a Not-A-Minn-Stf outing to the Minnesota State Fair. On-a-stick, of course. Or maybe they'll just make oobleck in Sharon and Richard's kitchen. The last time I looked, Sharon and Richard had a box of corn starch with their baking supplies, and an entire cupboard of cornstarch specifically for the making of oobleck. Those Crazy Minneapolis Fans. Ya just gotta love 'em, don'cha know? Further details most likely available from Minn-stf President
jbru or meeting host
dreamshark.
The Not-the-Hugo Awards voting deadline is this Wednesday, August 31st. Here's the ballot. Vote Early. Vote Often. Vote Now.

Onward! To Not-A-Worldcon in Massachusetts and its satellites, to NASFiC in Seattle, or wherever your Labor Day weekend adventures take you! May it be a wondrous time indeed.

Date: 2005-08-30 02:59 am (UTC)I applaud your fiscal responsibility, much as I'd like it if you could join in the fun, too. Me, I'm glad my parents sent me birthday money, 'cause that's my budget for the weekend's outings. I wasn't kidding about foraging through the cupboards for the casual Friday Night party, or the toffee butter popcorn. May we both enjoy more abundant times in the near and distant future.

Just too many large bills hitting all at once.
