They were yellowjackets. A bunch of them are now yellowjacket corpses. But some others are still flying in and out of the hive. I'll look again tomorrow, and probably pick up some more "guaranteed kill" spray of some sort or another and have a second go at the problem.

The odd thing is that I didn't see a bit of yellow when I looked at them yesterday.

The healing part of the process has moved onto the itchy phase. Oh, joy.

The garage looks...well, not great, but so much better that it's really about the same as great. Pretty day outside. Much gardening awaits, but more pressing projects inside have my attention. Onward.

Wow. Thanks -- I had no idea such a thing existed!

[Adds to shopping list to have around next weekend, and while Jack is here.]

A person can, apparantly, make their own by suspending a piece of tuna over a big bowl of soapy water. The yellow jackets, the theory goes, want the protein, cut off big hunks of it and try to fly away, falling in the soapy water, which, because the soap reduces surface tension, they drown in.

When we had yellow jackets, I tried this and it didn't work so well for me. I suggest giving it a try on the theory that it's kind of a cool science project and watching the little suckers drown because of their greed can be a valuable moral lesson.

Huh. Fascinating. Does it have to be yellowfin tuna?
