I hear Minneapolis weather has suckethed rather mightily of late. Here in Wales, it's a race between how tall the grass can grow and how many consecutive rain-free days will be enough for that grass to dry enough for me to mow it into temporary submission. Presuming I can walk away from PROmote work long enough to commit small engine abuse and follow the mower around the yard, that is. Should that time actually arrive before the snow flies, and All That Jazz...

Anyway, I figure we all can use a little Scott Alarik right now. Especially this tune, written back in the day when he was still a Minnesota resident as well as a Minnesota boy.

There's a fannish chorus, which fredcritter slipped in whenever he sang Scott's song at Minneapolis music parties back in the day (for values of "day" equal to the early-mid 1980s):

"L.A.'s got the Worldcon;
Boston's got the scrod.
Boulder's got Jon Singer;
Minnesota's got my bod."

Twenty-nine years ago, Scott Alarik moved to Massachusetts and made rather a name for himself writing about folk music for the Boston Globe. I can't believe I've been here nine years and haven't yet caught him at a music festival, concert, reading, or talk. He's going to be at Old Songs next month, as is Archie Fisher, another musician whose work I first heard in Minneapolis music circles. (Why, yes, I'm looking at you, coffeeem.) If all goes as I hope, I'll get over there for a day and catch them both.
