Over on one of the fannish email lists I'm on, the conversation recently turned to great comedians and their routines. It started at the top, with Dudley Moore and Peter Cook. I haven't heard "Bloody Greta Garbo," but mention of "The Frog and Peach" brought a big smile to my face. Ah, yes....

One fan in San Francisco commented that there had been a Frog and Peach restaurant in Mill Valley, but that it didn't last. Another mentioned a Vancouver restaurant by that name. In my search for a transcript of the comedy sketch, I came across several links to The Frog and Peach restaurant in Brunswick, New Jersey. Another message on Tuesday left me wondering just how many F&Ps there are out there, which is how I came to compile

Alas, it looks like the Vancouver Frog and Peach is now the Provence Mediterranean Grill:

4473 West Tenth ***+ $$$$ Provence Mediterranean Grill 222-1980 Habitués of the University District well remember the Frog and Peach which, under various guises provided a pleasant escape from the campus, but was followed by lesser breeds. Now the site has been almost re-built with a large open serving area behind a glass antipasti and dessert showcase and the kind of smart wood that brightens up bagelries.

There's another Canadian Frog and Peach, but it's on the other side of the continent in Peterborough, Ontario.

The Brunswick, NJ Frog and Peach actually could be promising in terms of fulfilling the spirit of the original, if one spelling-challenged reviewer is right: "Great restaurant with aweful food. Beautiful place, impecable service, ridiculous prices for the aweful food they have!" Alas, most of the reviews are quite complimentary.

I see no frogs or peaches on the lunch menu of The Frog and Peach Southern Buffet in Savannah, GA. (Or maybe that's the lunch menu for Red Baron's Pub and Steakhouse instead.)

There's a cute logo of the Atlanta, GA Frog and Peach Bistro in this listing.

Or you could go Down Under and check out the Frog and Peach in Ballina, NSW. It's only listed by name and phone number on this list of places to eat in Ballina; I suggest calling first.

Awww...Frog and the Peach in Canton, CT, is no longer in business. I would have had an easy time checking that out during upcoming travels between here and New York.

After 11 pages of the Google search, I gave up the ghost. If you know of any other F&Ps, please let me know. And if you win the lottery, you're welcome to invite me along on a World Tour; we could expand this guide with reviews and tales of our adventures. Or, you could simply hire a great chef and open a Frog and Peach Restaurant of your own. Let me know about it and I'll add it to any future editions of the guide.

Personally, I think any restaurant using the name really ought to have a spawn cocktail appetizer, and the two dishes mentioned the original sketch. Though I'd give great latitude on the preparation of those dishes. Substituting caviar for the tadpoles in Peche åa la Frog, for example. One of the best dishes I've ever eaten was a peach and duck dish...there really are some possibilities with cointreau, peaches, and frog meat. By policy, the cointreau would always be aimed at the peach.

And, yes, I would hope the restaurant offered many other delicious dishes as well. Bon appétit!

Cute list.

It wasn't that long ago that I was in San Luis Obispo looking for a good restaurant. But I somehow missed the Frog and Peach, although at that address it'd be right opposite Mission Plaza. Still, it sounds more like a pub than a restaurant. We wound up at an Italian place called Cafe Roma.

Frog a la Peche, etc.

I wonder if the Ballina F&P is owned by the couple who owned the F&P in Faulconbridge in 1997. I'll have to ask Jean & Eric.
