19 minutes and 30 seconds of non-stop reasons I'm so glad we're living in the future.

Bonus material for [livejournal.com profile] debgeisler, [livejournal.com profile] benveniste and PLATO lovers everywhere starting at 10:25.

With a tip o'the link hat to [livejournal.com profile] elisem, I present "Roger Ebert: Remaking My Voice," filmed at TED2011 in March 2011:

Fascinating. My boss has a son who has been in a wheelchair his entire life and who also gets all the loud-talking and assumptions of simple-mindedness. Yet he was a chess champion and runs forums for the Portland Trail Blazers. The internet is a place where he can be seen for who he really is and both he and him mom are hyper-aware of the potential and benefits of technology.

I think so much of Roger Ebert. I always have, but over the last couple of years that respect has grown almost exponentially. His blog contains so many examples of his strong clear prose and - even more importantly - his lucid thinking and loving heart. I'm so grateful that living in the future allows him to continue communicating with us; more than communicating, talking to us! (I understand what he means when he talks about the distancing that speaking by fingertip can engender, but I'm glad his fingertips can speak.)

I also choked up when Chaz did.
