This started as a post marking the apparent passing of my ultra-fun Logitech tiger mouse. Seriously, I've received a truly surprising number of compliments on this little cutie, and haven't grown tired of it in all the years since I picked it up while shopping with [livejournal.com profile] voidampersand at some California convention or another. Tonight, one of its buttons is simply not working and the mouse as a whole seems to be in total spazz mode.

As soon as I typed in the subject line, I opened a search window and let Google enlighten me:

pacificgeek.com has the mouse for a mere $99.99. And refurbished, no less. Good grief.

Someplace I've never heard of called Most Buying has it for $23.65.

Geeks.com had it for $7.50. Now that's the right price. Alas, it's out of stock.

Globalmedicalpro.com claims they're in stock, but only has them in a 4-pack for $51. Reasonable price on a per piece basis, but I need one mouse, not four.

The mouse world has moved on in the last several years, and it well could be time for me to get rid of the cable and move to a wireless model for less than I can replace my tiger mouse for. Or maybe another mouse from Logitech's fantasy collection.

I sure have enjoyed that tiger mouse. It served me well and always amused. I'll miss the little guy.

I was sure eBay would have one, but they don't. Anybody close who knows how to fix mice? I have a Kensington Expert Mouse (really 11 programmable buttons plus ball) and I fix a lot of basic stuff on it. When they stopped making it, I bought a second one that I checked every few months. I only paid $99, though -- I'm seeing $339 for it now.

These folks have your tiger inexpensively, but that's China. I don't know how you feel about that.

What? Logitech wants 745.00 for something they're pitching at kids?? They don't say 745 what, though. Yen, maybe?

Buy the four and sell three on eBay?

Well, there's always the do-it-yourself option: one mouse, two sharpies, and maybe a protective coating. Or enamel a mouse. (Heck, I'd do it for free, just for the experience.)
