Berries and Bats

It was dusk before I walked up the drive to the mailbox today. That meant it was too dark to stop and pick a few black raspberries for eating along the way. Instead, I was accompanied by a bat on my walk back down. Alas, I didn't have any mail for it. Still, it was good company, keeping a healthy distance while also giving me an enjoyable view of its flight path.

because they eat their weight in bugs every night. That mosquitos are one of their prey is especially excellent with me, since I'm mosquito food #1 restaurant in the neighborhood. (It's not fair, she said petulantly, Rohanna NEVER EVER gets bitten by any kind of bug.)

Except when the bat decides to come into the house...(see last August).As long as they're not acting weird (rabid), I worry about the bats because Siegfried and Yum! took the late Ms. Badb's education seriously and are Hunters. And I'd wager Ripley would also like to play badminton with a living birdie/bat.

That's two mentions of black raspberries within 24 hours. I looked them up, and now I want to try them. Probably just going to have to fall back on the ordinary red kind, though - I've never seen black ones in .uk.
