AKICOLJ: Accepting a Google+ invitation.

gerisullivanMany thanks to the friends who have sent Google+ invitations my way over the last couple of days.
Now I need to know how to accept an invitation.
Background: I receive email as plaintext. If there are any obvious links in the invitation that I need to click, they don't work for me. I can look at all of the code, and have gone to a variety of secure (https) Google+ webpages, one of which have took me to the Google+ profile page of the friend who sent the first invitation. It even let me send email to the friend, though it might have simply then sent the message to me. (I received a copy without knowingly asking for one.)
What tends to happen:
1) Google+ asks me to login to a Google account. (The invitations are coming to my primary email address, which is not a Google account.)
2) I login to my freshly-minted gmail account, the one linked to my recently-acquired Android smartphone.
3) I get the "we're in beta mode with a few testers" Google+ webpage offering me the chance to give them my email address if I want to be notified when they're accepting more users. There's fine print telling those of us who already have an invitation to please try back later.
What I'd like to know:
4) Is there a way to accept a Google+ invitation using my primary (non-Google) email address? It seems like there should be, given that Google+ is sending email to that address telling me various people have invited me to join.
5) Can a Google+ invitation be accepted from an address other than the one it was mailed to?
6) Is there something utterly obvious that I'm missing here?

Date: 2011-07-08 09:55 pm (UTC)There was a small window of opportunity today (yesterday my time) to sign up. You had to respond to the invite in that window. It closed again pretty quickly due to the overwhelming response. If they follow the same pattern, they should open it up again in a few days. Keep checking back and see if they have opened it up again. I sent out lots of invites yesterday but only a few of those people were able to get through. :(
