RIP: Bill Lipscomb
Apr. 15th, 2011 05:03 pmNobel Laureate [Chemistry, 1976] and FIG [Friend of the IG] Extraordinaire Bill Lipscomb died last night.
I am honored beyond words to have met Bill, to have laughed with him and to have lent a helping hand at various events at and surrounding the Ig Nobel Prize Ceremony these last few years. He was a classic, and leaves a very large hole in the humor of the universe.
Sympathy especially to Jean Evans, Bill's delightful and devoted wife who is also a type designer & past Wimbledon competitor. Sympathy as well to the rest of the family, of course. Likewise to Marc & Robin Abrahams and all of the Ig folks so missing Bill's presence in the world today.
For the record: insert repeat of previous "this year is so fired" incantations here. Lather, Rinse, Repeat.
