My Capricon 31 Schedule
Feb. 9th, 2011 02:19 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I am delighted to announce I was able to rescue several days of trip to the midwest that I cancelled due to physical therapy appointments needed to deal with newly-diagnosed knee problems. Yes, I'm escaping to Capricon 31! Fabulous GoHs, fabulous friends, and less than half the snow piled oh, so high at home.
Following
beamjockey's fine example, here are the program items I'll be on:
Upcoming Worldcons - Friday, 02-11-2011 - 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm - Lake Michigan B
The World Science Fiction Convention. Worldcon. The Big One. Come hear about upcoming Worldcons (Reno and Chicago) and Worldcon Bids (Texas and London...and perhaps a surprise bid for 2020?) so you can plan your vacations for the next few years!
Dave McCarty (M)
Tim Miller
Mike Scott
Geri Sullivan
One of Her Crazy Experiments (Teens only) - Saturday, 02-12-2011 - 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm - Ravinia B (Teen Lounge)
Geri Sullivan is perhaps best known for her series of experiments involving dissolving Peeps™ in various solvents. Today she brings you: FrankenPeep's Lab! Come assist her in her laboratory and become surgeons - creating Peeps™ monsters! (Teens only, please!)

Ig Nobel Prizes / The Emergency Bra - Saturday, 02-12-2011 - 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm - Willow
The Ig Nobel Prizes honor achievements that first make people laugh, and then make them think. The prizes are intended to celebrate the unusual, honor the imaginative - and spur people's interest in science and other fields of endeavor. One example is that of the Emergency Bra, designed by Dr. Elena Bodnar of Chicago. At Capricon's very own Improbable Research show, we'll take a look at several past winners as well as the Ig Nobel Prize Ceremony itself.

Can Bacon Go Wrong? - Sunday, 02-13-2011 - 10:00 am to 11:30 am - Botanic Garden B (Special Events)
Yes, we know that in theory, everything is better with bacon. But sometimes, occasionally, can it go horribly wrong? Can there be too much of this great thing? Are some things really not better with bacon? (Sunday morning pancakes not included.)
Brian "Thee Bluebeard" Miskelley
Erik V. Olson (M)
John Scalzi
Geri Sullivan
Leane Verhulst
What are Fanzines and How Do I Find Them? - Sunday, 02-13-2011 - 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm - Botanic Garden A (Special Events)
Fanzines are the foundation of fandom. It's how the fannish culture first came together and it is still a thriving part of the community. What are the best fanzines out there today?
Janice Gelb (M)
Jim Rittenhouse
Mike Scott
Geri Sullivan
Helen Montgomery has put together a great program, leaving me wondering how I'll possibly do anything other than keep up with my own events and sit in on every science item I can get within three snowbanks of. I am so looking forward to my presentation on the Ig Nobel Prizes, including Dr. Elena Bodnar's Ig Nobel Prize-winning Emergency Bra. I also totally love doing a Peeps experiment at Capricon -- putting Peep hearts into Somebody Else's Microwave was a memorable highlight of Capricon an exact decade ago. I'd heard of but never seen Peeps in a microwave before then. A mere 10 years ago....
