[livejournal.com profile] maruad pointed me at the Gizmodo link that in turn led to Shooting for the Sun in the November issue of The Atlantic.

It's a profile of inventor Lonnie Johnson, best known for coming up with the Super Soaker water gun, and his current work on the Johnson Thermoelectric Energy Converter. Twice as efficient as today's solar cells. Sounds good to me.

I love living in the future. Love it, love it, love it.

Originally Johnson sounded like a nut, but now I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

As you know, Bob, "inventor" and "nut" are not mutually-exclusive categories. On the contrary, they often go hand in hand, with obsession their lifelong companion.

It's not that; it's that any claim of radical new technology overlooked by the mainstream scientists, which is how the press seemed to spin this at first, is worthy of extreme scepticism.
