From the first piece of writing I wondered about:
I write like
Chuck Palahniuk

From yesterday's post about AIR:
I write like
Dan Brown

I Write Like by Mémoires, Mac journal software. Analyze your writing!

From the beginning of "Ashes, Dust, 9 Electric Razors":
I write like
Stephen King

From the middle of "Ashes, Dust..."
I write like
Stephen King

I Write Like by Mémoires, Mac journal software. Analyze your writing!

From the next three paragraphs of "Ashes, Dust..." (same scene as before):
I write like
Margaret Atwood

From the next day in "Ashes, Dust...":
I write like
H. P. Lovecraft

And the next:
I write like
J. K. Rowling

I Write Like by Mémoires, Mac journal software. Analyze your writing!

Finding the Carousel Wading Pool:

"He Preferred to Stroll," my as-yet-unfinished and now well over a decade in the waiting piece about my friendship with Walter Willis, is predominately like Stephen King and H.P. Lovecraft, though Kurt Vonnegut makes his first appearance there.

Fun, complete with a nice badge for "proof"...and that's about it. No complaints here, just amusement.

So I pulled one of my magazine articles and I find that I write like "Chuck Palahniuk," and I have two issues:

  • I've been writing longer than he has, so he writes like me.

  • Who the heck is Chuck Palahniuk?

Also, given the long meandering blather in the late-career novels of Rowling and King, I would not take that comparison as a compliment.

So... unfinished, eh? For ten years? That's a real bad case of writer's block.
