The clean, flat surfaces are still clean and flat. Color me croggled. Pleased, too.

All ZIP disks copied over to hard drive. Total data retrieved: 4.11 gigs. I caught at least some of the duplicate files and didn't copy them. For my next trick, I'll move all of the data to CDs.

I haven't had that level surfaces thing in months. around christmas we got to a certain state of clean but there were a few corners we pretty much ignored and thankfully so did all our guests.

No really, I see this as a side effect of being engaged in life as opposed to 'rushing' or hiding from life by being to destracted by everything else. When you are 'seeing' your space there is less chance of things piling up.

Oddly getting "control" of ones life seem to me to have less to do with how tight a grip we have on things as much as being just engaged with what is going on.

This is what I have noticed so far.

BTW, we are coming to Minicon, I got the tickets on Tuesday

Excellent observations about being engaged in life, and ways in which "control" works. I hadn't thought it of that way, but your description certainly matches many of my experiences.

Finishing the ZIP transfer process before coming to Boskone was an act of stubbornness and determination. I could have let it slip; in fact, I had explicit permission to let it slip from the owner of the ZIP drive. But I'm further into the edges of my comfort zone regarding things slipping there, and the natural outcomes that follow when good plans and intentions transform into regrets as they remain undone. Carving out another couple of hours from a busy day to finish that particular task paid for itself in satisfaction felt, on multiple levels.

I'm reminded of a quote of Julie Andrews along this line. Don't quite recall it exactly, but it's words to the effect of how much enjoys being disciplined because it allowed her so much freedom.

(Of course that's not disciplined in the "spanky-spanky" sense...)
