Enough already!

It's been a hard day, and the weather forecast isn't helping.

There's another winter storm coming, with 1-3 inches of wet snow predicted to start late tomorrow night, 4-8 inches more during the day Thursday, and other 3-6 inches of heavy snow Thursday night. That adds up to 8-17 inches. Like last time, I'm getting off easy; friends in Middleton (MA) are looking at 15-27 inches.

When I shoveled out the 10-16 inches awaiting my return from ConFusion, and the 6 inches that followed that, and the 4 inches that followed that, I only tackled half my driveway — enough for my one car — and a path to my front door. Over the weekend, as things started melting, I started a path along the side of the garage back toward the propane tanks and oil fill spout behind the house. Looks like I'd better finish the first pass on that before the snow starts falling again. Getting rid of the rest of the snow remaining in the driveway wouldn't hurt either.

I'm well stocked on food, and even have plenty of milk for cocoa. But I may just get out while the getting's good on Wednesday afternoon, and see what comfort items the markets have to offer. Recent discoveries on that front: rotisserie boneless leg of lamb, yum. Rotisserie beef ribs worked well, too. Seedless black grapes were on sale last week; I like them even better than seedless reds.

The good news is that I have a great plowguy. So I won't be snowed in for long. And the whole place is new enough that snow here is still pretty. But enough is, well, enough. And this winter has brought more than enough our way. Much more!

And if you were still in Minneapolis, you probably would have shovelled all of two or three this winter. (I'm lazy enough to have done it but once, letting the warm temps do my job on the light snowfalls.)

Okay, fair enough. I deserved that.

I have been keeping track of some of your low temperatures, though. And snow in Toad Woods and surrounding environs is far prettier than snow at Toad Hall, enchanting as that could be from time to time.

I'd just prefer that particular prettiness be done with for another 10 months or so...or to at least better control the frequency and quantity with which it falls.

It wasn't meant as a criticism, sweetie ... just a reflection of how weird this winter's been all over. Cursed global warming.

I hear ya about the prettiness ... after our one good snowfall, things were gorgeous 'round here. After a week of 40s and 50s(!), however, things have been drab. Got a faerie-dusting overnight, though, so we're back to pretty for a few hours, at least.

I don't know if I'm jealous or not. We've got roads that are disolving for lack of a better word. California clay on top of decomposing granite means if it wasn't packed hard *and* level...then there are ruts at least 10" deep in some places.

The closest snow for us has been 3500'. The house is at 1950' so we can see it across the valley when it was there.

Now it's an early wild flower season...who knows what will happen for the "extra 6 weeks" tho'. Rumor has it we're getting more rain on Thursday. Guess I can wait on finding a grading contractor (our equivelant to a plowguy) until after this next rain.

Yeah, I've seen it...trying hard not to "join" as I could get sucked into the babies for HOURS/days/months.....

This isn't a typical New England winter, really, it isn't. January alone in Boston had more snow than the average for an entire winter! Another unusual thing is that Cape Cod has been getting clobbered, normally it gets rather more rain that snow and rather less snow that the rest of the state.
