Lake Tahoe fills me with calm and feeds my soul. My, but sugar pines have big cones. Super sappy'n'sticky, too.
There's something about trees and rocks and water. Mountains help, too. It's pure comfort, deep joy, quiet satisfaction.
Pyramid Lake is wondrously ancient and alien. Tufa deposits, who knew? Then, near sunset, the sky turned to something out of a Tim Powers novel. Yep, fitting, and All That Jazz....
Film at 11, or whenever I get around to posting at least some of the pix. Good times. Reassuring and productive, too.

Date: 2009-10-13 04:42 pm (UTC)Lisa and I drove up along the west shore of Pyramid Lake a couple of years ago, beyond the end of the paved roads, because she still has dreams of buying some cheap land at Flannigan NV -- I could probably buy the whole town-site on my credit card, but there aren't any services, and maybe not even any water. I think the tufa deposits at Mono Lake are more impressive, but Pyramid Lake is interesting, too.
You've basically been seeing geography of my youth -- stuff I grew up taking for granted. At the time, I don't think I appreciated it as much as I do now.
