The subject line refers to the number of steps I walked Saturday. It was my first "over 10,000" day since surgery.

I would have walked more if I were at Birds Hill Park in Manitoba for BaggieCon at the Winnipeg Folk Festival, but that's okay. I doubt I would have held up through 26,5XX steps, which is my all time daily record since I started wearing a pedometer two years ago. I set the record at BaggieCon in 2007 after having walked 18,000+ steps the day before.

The entire 127-acre Smith College campus is a botanical garden and arboretum. Gorgeous. I didn't know Susan could possibly walk past even one let alone hundreds of interesting plants without stopping to coo over each one, but she did. Admirably, without complaint or even a comment. There was the rest of the tour group of prospective students, parents, and friends to keep up with.

There any more college tours ahead. July is especially full of them. Susan and Gavi are spending most of the next two weeks here and we have 7-8 more tours on the schedule. They'll then be visiting three more schools on the way home. With luck, I'll be able to join them for Cornell in Ithaca, then a fun day in Corning looking at amazing glass. Fingers crossed!

It will be interesting to compare the tours I'm able to go along on and see how they differ. I thought our tour guide at Smith was fabulous, but Gavi said she was pretty much the same as the tour guides at Carleton, Macalester, and UW-Madison. Wow.

We're building break days into the schedule. We're all looking forward to sleeping in and just hanging out here at Toad Woods all day Sunday. Here's hoping I can plow through a bunch of the items on my To Do list -- the more I can stay on top of my work and other commitments, the more tours I can go along on.

Life is good. I hope the music and fun in Winnipeg is equally so.

Ah, Bird's Hill! Remember the time at WFF when an intense thunderstorm kicked up just as the evening set was wrapping up, and we were all walking back to the campsite in the pouring rain? You may not have noticed this, but I looked up to see a lighting bolt spread over us and it was magenta.

I'd prefer that you didn't comment on my posts.

Thank you.

"I'd prefer that you didn't comment on my posts."

[livejournal.com profile] huladavid: Is your world really so small that you still find value in a 18-year-old grudge?

On a more practical level, why would you expect someone to whom you've been nothing but hateful to for 18 years to respect your preference?

And on a personal note, fuck you too.

You know, I have to apologize for how I handled this. I would like to talk about what you're seeing as my hateful behaviour, but it'd probably be best if I took that over to my LJ site.

After thinking about it for a couple of hours I don't think apologizing for "how I handled this" doesn't cut it. It's not as good as saying that I was wrong.

And I was wrong.

I'm sorry to both you and Karen.

[livejournal.com profile] huladavid, your comment is inappropriate and unwelcome here. This is the comment area for my journal, not yours.

The only reason I haven't deleted your comment is that [livejournal.com profile] minnehaha B. quotes it and speaks directly to you and I am unwilling to delete his comment as well.

You know Geri, you're right. I was opporating on this situation being like someone I didn't want to deal at a large party, and I'm seeing that it's more like being rude to a guest you'd invited to a dinner party. I'm sorry.

You're welcome. (Sorry about taking so long to respond. I sometime forget--as if that's NEVER been apparent--my social graces.

Other than the first night, I have been missing the folk fest as well. The boys aren't comfortable being left alone that long for two days in a row. By next year they will probably beg us to go but not yet. We offered to take them with us but they declined.

Good for you! Sounds like your recovery is pretty much complete. BTW, what brand of pedometer do you use? I'm thinking about getting one myself.

I've broken several pedometers. My current model only counts steps (no miles equivalents based on your average stride or other interesting data). It was a freebie through a wellness program and it's turning out to be delightfully robust. It has a little anchor clip that keeps it from crashing to the floor when doing things like pulling up one's pants after using a restroom.

The front says "Accusplit" in Roman type and "Eagle" in italics.

Neat. There are two URL's inside. One of them even works. Here's Accusplit's website and the 120XL model I have. To me, the most important part is having one where the reset button is behind a cover so it's not getting accidentally reset all the time.

They also have a dealer locater. I suspect their website may only sell pedometers in quantity since everything seems to be marked "call for a price."

"I've broken several pedometers."

You're not supposed to step on them.

Now you tell me. Where were you four pedometers ago?
