Hugo Voting Reminder for Rushed Procrastinators

When you cast your Hugo Award ballot online in the next 11 hours (27 minutes 11 seconds as I typed each of the numbers), remember to REVIEW and SUBMIT the confirmation page that comes up after you finish filling out your ballot.

Seeing that confirmation page reminded of my last-minute panic earlier this year when I failed to confirm my nominations when making them in a rush, then catching my error about 4 hours before the nominating deadline.

I was relieved to promptly receive an email confirmation within moments of seeing on the website that I'd successfully submitted my ballot. It's belts'n'suspenders'n'more affirmation that my electronic vote was received and contained the information I entered. And a very useful set of affirmations at that.

I understand that the Hugo Voter packet will not be available after the voting deadline. That makes lots of sense given that the people and companies providing the materials are doing so in support of the Hugo voting process. I greatly appreciate the publishers and other rights owners providing nominated works to eligible voters and congratulate this year's nominees.

The year Science-Fiction Five-Yearly was nominated, I breathed a huge sigh of relief when voting closed. No longer could anything I did or didn't do have any effect on the voting outcome. I wanted the work to be judged, not any of my own actions or statements during the time I knew SFFY was nominated. With voting closed, I was able to relax and enjoy the rest of the ride.

Okay, it's now 11 hours, 1 minute and 17 seconds. Onward!

For the next 6 hours and 16 minutes, you can...

1) Register for Chicon 7, this year's Worldcon, at the $215 attending rate (it'll be $230 after 11:59 pm PDT).

2) Download the fabulous Hugo Voter Packet.

3) VOTE for this year's Hugo Award Winners.

Please don't wait until the very last minute, or even hour to do all three of those things. Getting your membership number and/or a PIN in time to download the Hugo Voter packet and/or vote is likely to involve sending email to hugopin@chicon.org, and they may well need a few minutes to respond.

After these few hours pass, it will be August. And that means Chicon will be starting in 30 days! Thirty days until my 30th Fanniversary Party in the Minnesota Magpies suite. Thirty days until Opening Night at the Adler Planetarium. Thirty days until so very much more.
