Praises be for Company!
Jul. 20th, 2010 08:54 amThe grass still needs mowing, my desk is its usual chaos, and the interior of the Zeppelin Hangar could still use a thorough dust'n'polish in place of the spot work I did in the last 12 hours....
That said, the house is both tidier and cleaner than it's been in...an embarrassingly long time. The stairs to the Flamingo Loft are as clear as they ever get. The Fibertone is organized and stored on the shelves up there, as is all the stuff that had accumulated on the stairs, waiting to go up.
The kitchen is presentable, as are the mud room entrance, dining area, and living room. The main guest bed not only has clean sheets on it, the seam on the fitted sheet that started ripping out, oh, the third or fourth time I washed them (which means many guests ago)...that seam is mended. Guest towels are out'n'ready. The bin in the freezer has been emptied of ancient ice and the ice maker is busy making fresh ice as I type.
The coffee table is piled high with Worldcon Souvenir Books, World Fantasy Program Books, and a few other notable convention publications in anticipation of
debgeisler's arrival in a few hours. It's our first formal planning meeting for the Renovation Souvenir Book. Deb's the editor, I'm the designer, and we're both happy to be working on another fun project together.
Susan WINOLJ is due in by evening. She'll decompress from the two days of DriveDriveDrive and we'll see what we can do to keep ourselves out of trouble until we pick Gavi up on Saturday.
I like living in a home that's reasonably clean and tidy. Yes, standards vary wildly -- plenty of people would look at my office, and the bits of clutter here and there that are only neatly stacked, and wonder what planet I'm living on to claim it's reasonably clean and tidy. If I'd stopped after making the guest bed and washing the dishes that don't go in the dishwasher, plenty of other people would have found the place comfortably lived in. Me? I like being able to see at least some of the horizontal, flat surfaces in my living area. And now I can.
And that's just one of many reasons I say "Praises be for Company!"
