The SundayBeforeThanksgiving
Nov. 21st, 2005 03:41 amMimosas. Piping cheese with clams and smoked oysters and little parsley trees for the piping cheese "mountains." Beef stew. The dining table heaped with food; the kitchen table similarly laden with alcohol. Friends old and new, and nowhere I need to drive for a good 24 hours after the party ends.
Yep, must have been Jack[WINOLJ]'s SundayBeforeThanksgiving Brunch. The 29th annual such affair, as a matter of fact. It was charming, it was fun, and it was oh so good to see oh so many people I enjoy spending time with.
The hardest part about being in Chicago has been not coming to Minneapolis this time around. I flew in last Tuesday and picked up a rental car in order to spend a few days visiting family and a couple of long-lost friends in Michigan. Driving out of O'Hare, all I wanted to do was head straight to Minneapolis. Three days later, when I returned the rental car, I walked through the terminal to catch the CTA into town. I had to fight the impulse to buy a seat on the next flight to Minneapolis. I learned last January that I can visit as far west as Battle Creek, MI, with ease. But I come to Chicago, and Minneapolis just seems like it's just up the way a bit, and that it's the direction I need to travel, oh, right now.
Alas, right now will have to wait an undetermined bit longer.
Still, it's been a great trip. And brunch...oh, yeah, it rocked.
