The SundayBeforeThanksgiving

Mimosas. Piping cheese with clams and smoked oysters and little parsley trees for the piping cheese "mountains." Beef stew. The dining table heaped with food; the kitchen table similarly laden with alcohol. Friends old and new, and nowhere I need to drive for a good 24 hours after the party ends.
Yep, must have been Jack[WINOLJ]'s SundayBeforeThanksgiving Brunch. The 29th annual such affair, as a matter of fact. It was charming, it was fun, and it was oh so good to see oh so many people I enjoy spending time with.
The hardest part about being in Chicago has been not coming to Minneapolis this time around. I flew in last Tuesday and picked up a rental car in order to spend a few days visiting family and a couple of long-lost friends in Michigan. Driving out of O'Hare, all I wanted to do was head straight to Minneapolis. Three days later, when I returned the rental car, I walked through the terminal to catch the CTA into town. I had to fight the impulse to buy a seat on the next flight to Minneapolis. I learned last January that I can visit as far west as Battle Creek, MI, with ease. But I come to Chicago, and Minneapolis just seems like it's just up the way a bit, and that it's the direction I need to travel, oh, right now.
Alas, right now will have to wait an undetermined bit longer.
Still, it's been a great trip. And brunch...oh, yeah, it rocked.

Date: 2005-11-21 03:05 pm (UTC)Well I supose that happens everywhere but what I meant was there's a party in Mpls that night that would be great fun to see you at.
And we have two spare rooms.
Great stuff
Date: 2005-11-21 05:17 pm (UTC)"It's Monday November 21 in 2005 and you have been in the USA for 10 years, 2 months and 18 days. You have been away from South Africa for 5 years, 4 months and 2 days since your last holiday, which ended on Saturday July 22 in 2000, which is 1948 days ago in total."
Yes, I am a silly boy!
So I find I am so excited about my trip I could burst, though it is 7 months away yet, most likely. But for today, I sympathize deeply, sweet Geri, and I offer you all I can at the moment: my warmest e-hug! And if you can, Laura Jean's offer sounds magnificent. It is a great fannish crowd out there; your family.

Date: 2005-11-21 09:26 pm (UTC)Laura Jean's offer is magnificent, and, yes, it's a great fannish crowd out there. The very welcome reality of fandom as I know it is that I have family everywhere. The downside of that reality is that I can only spend New Year's in one place, and I already have plans in place for this year. But I am working on figuring out when I'm going to get to Minneapolis Next!
Love your program. Well done.
