So, if I'm going to be trufen-dotted as having a weblog pointing here, I suppose I really ought to have something less moldy than a short note of bemusement from three weeks ago. Life continues faster than unpacking does. Layout of the Worldcon Souvenir Book continues more slowly than I would like, though it is a sheer, marvelous delight to work with this caliber of material, contributors, and committee members. Big Fun. Way Big Fun. Now to get it done!

As [livejournal.com profile] brithistorian noted right about the time his and Angel's laundry room was being broken into, it's also my birthday today. So far, I've have the better end of the day. Much as I hope his gets better, I also hope mine doesn't take a turn for the worse.

If all of my LJ friends were at Toad Woods today (and, well, if I were there, too), we could unpack boxes and I could find hobbit-style birthday gifts for each and every one of you. Sorry, the spiffy robot-printed potholders already found a new home with a friend (WINOLJ) who admired them while helping unpack my kitchen.

Thirty-five years ago, humankind landed on the moon and were so eager to walk out the door and onto its surface that they asked Mission Control for permission to walk right then, rather than waiting until the next day, which the schedule called for. NASA gave the go-ahead, and so it was that "one small step..." was taken July 20th rather than on my birthday as had been planned. I understand that kind of wonder and enthusiasm well enough to have forgiven them -- heck, if I'd been there myself, I woulda wanted to walk now too. So yes, I forgave them. But I've not forgotten yet, and I somehow doubt I ever will.

Happy Birthday to everyone else who shares this curious fate, and to all born on July 20th, too.
