I called the neighbors. Still no power there, but power has been restored on a nearby street. I asked them to call me if they get power back, and will touch base with them before buying a generator.

The neighbors just called! Their electricity is back. No guarantees, of course, but mine probably is, too.

Re: Power outs
Date: 2008-12-12 09:57 pm (UTC)When I was a kid, an ice storm in southern Michigan knocked out power at 22 Grand Blvd., Battle Creek, for 3.5 days. My dad went out and bought an alternator a couple days into it, waiting in the Sears parking lot for the Sears delivery truck full of them to claim the one promised to him.
I'm very relieved to have power back -- and therefore, heat -- before the risk of pipes freezing became significant as it would have over the next 8-16 hours.
