The Alien
The Alien

Here's the alien that followed me home from the grocery store last night. It's a citron, an open-fingered Buddha's Hand citron. The aroma is enchanting, mostly floral with citrus undertones.

Click through for a few more pictures of it here and at Thanksgiving dinner...and a shot of Mark and Priscilla's fascinating new sculpture, "Otherworldly Procession" by Vincent Villefranca. (There's also a picture of it on his website, and also one of "The Future of Ornithology", which you will see sucking away at the Buddha's Hand in the Thanksgiving pictures. It's a good thing Mark and Priscilla drove to Illuxcon...93 pounds of sculpture would be rather awkward to fly with, not to mention the framed art that followed them home. They're keeping that, too, which is fine with me since I get to enjoy looking at it when visiting.)

'Twas a lovely Thanksgiving. Good company, good food, much laughter. Priscilla knew about Buddha's Hand citrons, but had never seen one in person. Score.

So, nothing actually eats this in your pictures? I thought from your comments that something or someone was sucking on it. What does one do with this, besides admire it's weirdness.

K. [off to google, because I am sure that "citron" here is not the same as "citron" in French]

Ah, I was sure it was a "false friend" and I was right. It's a form of etrog. Very good!

You could make lemoncello with this. That would be very good.

Mark & Priscilla could -- the Buddha's Hand was a hosting prezzie (as was the carnival glass turkey, but it's not suitable for making lemoncello).

I'll mention it to them. Yesterday, only zest and candied citron came up as possibilities.

Thanks!

Neat. I didn't know the word "etrog" before now. Thanks!

Very nice.

But what is it placed on? That's a very beautiful plate/bowl/surface there.

Thank you. Yes, that's my planet bowl. It's a shallow, dichroic glass bowl that followed me home from Impulse, the appropriately-named store in Provincetown, MA. There are six more pictures in my Emergency Holographic Planet gallery.

Of course, now that I've visited their website, I find myself wanting to see the Northern Lights bowl in person. That's a temptation best avoided, I think.
