I just did 4,700 of them in an hour. My second Zumba class went better than the first two weeks ago -- the teacher slowed things down (her footwork was super-fast the first week), and the steps were more familiar thanks to having done most of them once.

Zumba is a dance-based exercise class like Jazzercise, only using Latin music and dance steps. An 8-week class is being offered for free here in Wales as part of the town employees' wellness program. The February schedule is tricky thanks to the election and a no school day, so it will be another two weeks until the next class. Then we go weekly; that will be good.

I'm deliberately not linking to the Zumba website; the content content and quality doesn't warrant dealing with the glitz.

I am enjoying both the workout and meeting more of my neighbors. Win-win.

In other "move more" news, I finally seem to have settled into using the NordicTrack ski machine that [livejournal.com profile] debgeisler and [livejournal.com profile] benveniste gave me. I'll abandon it for the elliptical I want the moment I'm able to purchase one, but I no longer abhor using the NordicTrack and I rarely feel like I'm about to fall off more than once or twice a session. (While there's no promise of future performance involved, I do note that I've felt like I'm about to fall off the thing hundreds of times, and I have yet to fall or otherwise injure myself once. And being free, it fit the budget beautifully.)

All that Peeps shopping yesterday put 14,500+ steps on my pedometer. That kind of step count is normally unheard of unless I'm traveling. So, yes, it's a good couple of days on the move more front. And surprising, considering that I'm spending most of my days and nights doing design and layout here at my computer.

I keep meaning to get a pedometer that works. I got a freebie a few years back that was pretty pointless. I'll probably get one soon.

My exercise is so variable. I aim to walk at least a mile a day. Wednesday and Thursday of last week, I did about 3 miles each day (or more) because of having to park my car in a remote area, walk to a bus, then walk all over campus.

Then, Friday-Monday, I was very inactive. It was too damn cold to walk outside, and while we have a treadmill, I haven't used it recently.

Then, today, I shoveled. Twice. The first time, it was nice, light, fluffy snow. The second time, it was rain-saturated heart attack snow. So, I think I've made up for my days of less activity. Oh, and I probably burned some calories while driving in the chaotic conditions that winter in the northeast can produce.

Good to hear from you. By the way, are you and I close to a catch-up phone conversation? (And I hope it's warm enough tomorrow for me to get out for a real walk. I would probably benefit from Jazzercise or anything related to it, but a daily walk would be better than nothing.)

Good for you!!! I have been going to aerobics twice week to help up my exercise. I wear a pedometer too and usually can get 10,000 steps in each day chasing the kids and doing things around the house. When that does not work, I walk around a few blocks or when it is too icky outside I drive to the local mall and walk.

It feels really good to be more active. It had been 8 years since my last aerobics class. This one is free through our recreation center which is a half block away from me so I don't have much of an excuse. LOL

Keep it up. I wish I could attend Boskone this weekend, but we could not figure out a way to make it affordable with all of us. Have fun! I look forward to the post-con report about the peep experiments.

I'm glad you and da machine have come to an accommodation -- it's great that you're getting some use out of it! (I never did get over the near-vertigo...you have much more staying power than I.)

Not until after Boskone (this weekend) for the phone conversation. I'm booked next Tuesday night, and juggling 4 work projects, so it's likely to be the end of next week at the earliest.

In my book, daily walks are better than Jazzercise. Daily walks are wonderful. Even thrice-weekly walks are good, but daily walks, oh, yes. Not that I've ever managed them, mind you.

Onward.
