It's raining. Snow is melting.

It's been raining on and off for a couple of hours. There's enough wind action and odd sounds that it keeps catching my attention. That's enough melting action that my driveway is snow-free for as far as I can see (I admit that isn't far, but if the snow's all gone down on the pavement and blacktop down here, it probably is all the way to the top, too.)

It's nearly 10pm and the outside temperature here at Toad Woods is 48 degrees Fahrenheit. The forecast is for daytime temps above freezing every single day from now until New Year's Eve.

I love Massachusetts.

I doubt the rest of the snow will melt fast enough to give us a green Christmas, but we may well get a green New Year's Day. I saw it happen four years ago, when the 40 inches of snow that fell Smofcon weekend had all melted by the time I sold Toad Hall, flew east the next day, and celebrated New Year's at [livejournal.com profile] debgeisler's and [livejournal.com profile] benveniste's. I'm doing the same this year as far as the New Year's celebration goes. I hope I'm less tired and fried than I was then. Shouldn't be overly difficult -- I don't have to sell a house, pack and move 20 years worth of belongings, or fly to get to Boston.

At least, not according to the current plans. I'm knocking wood that the coming week doesn't bring anything that changes any of that.

Happy Holidays to all who celebrate them!

Totally off the subject, but for some reason when I read your first two sentences, it came into my head with the tune of the first part of the Time Warp ("It's raining, Snow is melting, madness takes control") Don't know why...

Happy holidays!

Sweet!

It's clearly Time Warp time around here -- not only is the snow melting, melting, melting, today's mail brought a check from a client that's dated 12/26. Of this year, even!

We bit the bullet this time

One of my regular Sunday chat night friends is in Leavenworth, they got 6-7 inches plus some ice. Saturday our weather started with rain and +32 degree weather, then the temps plummeted and the rain turned clicky but didn't stick as freezing rain (thank ghu) and ended up being fine fine snow, of which we got about 2" max. And not blowing, which it apparently did elsewhere.

Went out to the porch while makng cookies, it was like being in a big, quiet snow globe in the deep forest--I don't know of everything really was that still or the snow muffled all the city noise...

Although my car battery and commonsense tell me that a warm christmas would be nice I am happy with my snow. We don't get as much as you but then it seldom melts before spring.

Have a great holiday season Geri.

Don

Thank you, and likewise in return. Seeing you here on LJ and being back in communication with each other is one of the highlights of my year!

Well, our old stomping grounds certainly got slammed with winter weather yesterday and today. I hope all of our friends are fine and dandy, all snuggled up in their little hidey holes. As for us here in College Station, Texas, I may not mention the 67-degree, sunny day we had today. Terrible weather. Simply unbearable. ;=)

Oh, you poor dear, suffering with all that warmth and sunshine.

No kidding. I have absolutely no idea what to grill for Christmas Eve dinner: chicken or rib-eye steaks. I am in such a quandry...

Our high in NoVA was only 52F, but it was sunny, too. I hope it stays sunny -- I can't walk on snow or ice and that means I get stuck inside when the cold wet comes in.
