Closing Countdown
May. 12th, 2004 01:42 amElectrical service ordered. Digital cable and high speed internet service ordered, with installation scheduled for Saturday morning. Picked up a gift TV so cable installer will have something to install the digital cable service to, thus saving me the need to buy a new TV before I can measure the opening in the TV cabinet that's been in storage for 4.5 months, and won't be in Wales for a couple of weeks yet.
Talked with the propane folks; from them I learned that the Wales post office is already holding mail for me. It's something of a stretch to chalk it up to small town realities, as the propane company is at least four small towns away. Hmmm.
Confirmed with the post office that, yes, indeed, they're holding mail for me. I can pick up what's already there tomorrow as I'm on my way through to Boston, and start having it delivered after closing.
Bank accounts opened; money for closing successfully transferred from Minnesota account. Phone service still to be ordered, and trash pickup details still TBD. Bought a comfy chair last week at an "antiques" sale set up at the 1733 former tavern that was the reason I went looking at Wales in the first place. It's just half a mile from my soon-to-be home. They're holding it for me until after closing, so I can swing by and pick it up after I've dropped the first load of stuff off at the house. Oddly enough, the closing on the sale of the 1733 house is also set for this Friday.
Three-quarter size futon and box spring ordered; will call place on Friday afternoon and see if they can deliver that day. If not, I'll swing by there and pick up the futon so I'll have *something* to sleep on Friday night. The box spring isn't likely to fit in the car, though I could be wrong about that. They've promised a loaner mattress if for some reason the futon isn't done in time.
Ran off to New Orleans for the weekend and designed the Worldcon Souvenir Book...well, "established the basics of the design" is more like it. Good time. Looks to be a good book, and bunches o'fun to work on.
Time and location of closing set. Lots of details still to track and deal with, but the overall plan seems to be falling into place. Eep. Big joy, mixed with way more overwhelm than is ideal. Need to remember to take each day and each decision as it comes, to get to point X, then take it from there.
