dd_b just brought to my attention the fact that
Toad Hall is back on the market. I don't want it back, but seeing this news at the end of a long stay at The Bhigg House has me feeling more than a little nostalgic. Toad Hall was one of the models The Bhigg House is based on. They've done much more than I ever did to create a haven for interesting people from around the world -- I'm deeply honored to have helped them get their start.
It's been a terrific vacation, albeit one richer in memories than most. Many of those memories reminded me of things and times lost or otherwise long gone. Toad Hall coming back on the market is similarly infused with poignancy.

Date: 2007-07-10 02:46 pm (UTC)Okay, that's a lie. But we were tempted to call you -- 'cept you were probably in Canada and would have had to pay roaming -- Friday night and say, "So, we got hungry near Sturbridge and we decided just to eat whatever we could find at your house." Instead, we ate Thai food. :-) See you soon!
P.S. I am not foot-loose and fance-free for days on end...whaddya say we drink lots of wine paint your stairwell? (Probably not in that order.)

(I even figured out the typo before reading your next comment.)
You were wise to opt for the Thai restaurant. The current sight of my kitchen would have horrified you. It horrifies even me. Make that a day to sleep and a day to clean...sometime next week maybe?

Also, if you find little signs at cat-eye level, it means Steve was by. ;] The "round-eyed lap vermin" reminds me of Steve chaffing Emma...

Date: 2007-07-19 03:12 am (UTC)There was a sofa on the porch when I drove by last week, but no vehicles out back. The listing sheet mentions that the owners had plans to add a bathroom on the third floor and that they've left a tub and construction materials in the garage. So, yes, it may well be empty.
The garage looked worse than ever -- I'm surprised they didn't throw a coat of paint on the surface facing the alley at least. It also looked like the bottom of the door was cut off or kicked in, though I just did a quick drive-by rather than looking at it closely.
The online version of the Strib doesn't yet mention an open house, but if you end up going to one, please do report back on what you see and learn! I'm curious, too. (And so help me, if there's a Craftsman tool box on site, please check it for any tools inscribed "S. B. Sullivan" or anything else that would demonstrate my ownership of it. Okay, that's more than a long shot. But I still regret having lost it at the very end of the move out of Toad Hall.)

calling them or stopping by -- they'd love to see you, and they could
also let you know about any open houses. They're still the Best Neighbors
in the Universe.
I was gonna call them to see what was up before going over.

ha ha ha - the third floor joists will not support a bathroom and no inspector in their right mind would go along with that

I think the new girl homeowner got overwhelmed and I think her "boyfriend" turned out to be a useless dipwad.

Very few open houses this weekend. I think the realtors are all up at their lake homes.
I'm fairly sure the boyfriend took the toolbox and I don't think he lives there anymore. This is based on how suspicious he acted towards me. He was hiding something. But I'd know it if I saw it and the contents, believe me!
I went to the inspections web page and read her truth-in-housing report. The electric sub-panel I put in the attic has its cover off and there's wires exposed in the attic. Someone was in the middle of doing something up there. It also mentions water damage and peeling paint. Um... do I care? Sorta but not really. I'd like to see how my shed is holding up. Must need painted by now. Hope the next buyer has better resources. Maybe some friends of Beth and Caroline will grab it this time?
Also... the basement drain (probably the clean out trap) has been backing up and flooding to the point that the inspector could tell.
and so on and so forth. It was nice seeing you last month!
