Ten years ago, I hosted the first Yuri's Night celebration on Thursday night of Minicon. Greg Cotton added the best pizzaz imaginable to the celebration by parking a 1960s kiddie rocket ride in front of the Minneapolis Hilton, plugging it in, and giving free rides for hours.

Our Yuri's Night celebration was fabulous. As Greg Brown sings, "Sometimes things just get better and better and better than they've already been":

As the info on YouTube says, "NASA Astronaut Cady Coleman, Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson Perform First Space-Earth Duet. NASA Astronaut Cady Coleman, circling Earth aboard the International Space Station, and musician Ian Anderson, founder of the rock band Jethro Tull, joined together for the first space-Earth duet."

Edited to add: As [livejournal.com profile] calimac mentions down in the comments, he thanks Making Light for the link. Do head on over there and read Patrick Nielsen Hayden's post as well as the comments. As Patrick points out, "A live flute duet between an astronaut aboard the ISS and the now-elderly Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull? While Anderson is on tour in the Russian city of Perm? That’s the sort of event no committee could have dreamed up; it happened simply because human beings are quirky."

Here's to the joy quirky humans add to the world!

With a profound thanks o'the link hat to [livejournal.com profile] calimac and Making Light!
