After hearing a report from [livejournal.com profile] elaine_brennan, I went looking. Found confirmation, alas.

Wilson "Bob" Tucker died yesterday.

Whimper.

I read the Wikipedia entry in Recent Passings, but I couldn't find confirmation until I read your post.

I'm writing an Obit for the Silicon Newsletter right when I get into teh office.

In the afterlife, they must have one helluva fanzine. (You should excuse the expression.)

I'm sorry to hear this - I never had the chance to meet him, but he was one of the few people in fandom that I never heard anyone speak ill of.

The news hit Wikipedia sometime before 9:30 last night, but given how unreliable Wikipedia can be, I thought it was yet another hoax until this morning.

Tucker was just one of the most consistently pleasant people I've ever met in fandom. I didn't know him really well, but I always enjoyed seeing him.

Sad news. Tucker was such a delight as a fan and a writer. In 1975 I attended my first out-of-town convention: Windycon. While hauling cans of beer to a party, I met Tucker and Gordy Dickson in an elevator. Being young and impulsive I asked for autographs, but the only items at hand were the beer cans. They kindly signed one can each (in bright red marker) and later that evening I was introduced to smoooooooooooth. Lovely memories. A few years ago Gordy's can was donated to a TransAtlantic Fan Fund auction. Tucker's can remains in the crisper, refrigerated all these years, the red autograph still sharp. I think I'll savor it a bit longer before it goes to a good cause.

One morning at Aussiecon, on the ledge under the mirror across the wall of my room's bathroom, there was a meat pie [inedible even to many Australians, who have no sense of taste] with one bite out of it. Autographed by Tucker.
I have no idea why.

And a great sadness befalls the world as we know it.
