Moving stats to date

Actual weight being moved by Graebel professional movers: a mere 8680 pounds. Looks like my drive to get rid of stuff is going to save me a couple thousand dollars in moving expenses!
It fit into 9 crates, which is also less than the lowest estimate received, saving me additional $$$ in storage costs.
Graebel Van Lines rocks so far. I'm *very* pleased with how the first part of the move went, and with their communication with me to date.
Current count of bins/boxes to be shipped via FedEx (Ground) Home Delivery: 53
Weight on those is still TBD. Individual bins so far have varied from 17 pounds to 33. I repacked a couple that were heavier after hauling them first from the attic, then by David C. to the garage, followed by Martin S. hauling them to the storage shed, and me hauling them from the strorage shed to Jeff's.
I'm delightfully shocked by the low weight on the professional part of the move. I'm well underneath the lowest of the three moving bids -- 9,700, 11,000+, and 15,500+. All three were told and shown the same amount of stuff. My sister handled the music box, tea cart, and some other items the movers included in their estimate, which saved a couple hundred pounds. I'd guesstimated I was going to come in around 10,000-12,000 pounds, and was keeping my fingers crossed that it wouldn't go higher. The Graebel driver, who's been in the biz for 23 years, estimated 10,500-11,500 pounds after doing the inventory and seeing everything loaded. (His average is 1,000 pounds per page of inventory.)
I don't have a weight on the contents of the five (count 'em, 5) TUBS dumpsters I used. The first two were filled to the brim with a variety of stuff, much of it weighing rather a lot. The third all too quickly consumed cardboard boxes rather mistakenly thrown in on moving day before being flattened. I left the last two slightly over half-full each and encouraged the new owners to fill 'em up in the couple of days they were going to be sitting there after closing. (Thanks to the New Year's holiday.) They were gone when I returned to Minneapolis this past Monday, so all is well on that front.
As for everything else, it's all rather intense and immensely tiring. Bottom line good, though. Closing went well. Very smooth. The only paperwork that had to be redone came when Realtor Bob found another $23 and some odd cents due to me. Depositing the proceeds was great fun.
Current status: I've finished the first 90% of the move and am now working on the second 90%. With luck, I'll start driving east sometime this weekend.
I'll post when I can, but it's likely to be sporadic at best for the next several weeks. I'm reading LiveJournal fairly regularly, though not quite every day.
