Life in Wales

On my way home from the Transfer Station, I stopped by the Wales Market for a munchie fix. There's what looks like a new sign in the window, just to the left of the door. It reads:

"Please report any UFO activity by email:
WalesMA@[ISPdeleted].com

A.I.D.F. - Alien Invasion Defense Force
Defending earth from Extraterrestrial invasion from the
Center of the Modern Universe, Wales, MA 01081"

Great sign! The woman running the store tonight assured me it's not a joke. Better yet, two guys on the town's Finance Committee are the ones behind it. They're very scientific, very educated, she assured me. Their beliefs are based on a lot of scientific information.

Neither of them were present, so that's all I can report at this time. I do have one question -- is a mysterious change in the appearance of my LJ friends page a sign of UFO activity?

I will also observe that if Wales is the Center of the Modern Universe, it's vital that both [livejournal.com profile] minnehaha's visit soonestkind and arrange for a way to move it.

It's not UFOs--for whatever reason, the LJ management changed the default site layout. If you haven't specified a layout for your friends page, you get the default.

I think they've changed it right back...or something. When I first opened my style preferences, it showed everything as "Generator," which I don't remember as being a style I chose. I tried the LJ Default style, then Clean and Simple, then the Default again. Both the Default and Generator came up as Generator. Then, suddenly, the default was the old default again.

So you're sure it's not UFOs then?

I suppose it's a good thing the A.I.D.F. isn't monitoring email traffic in Wales. I've received and sent several messages about the Minicon Mothership this week.

So, Geri...we wait until the next Wales Town Finance Committee meeting after Minicon...we fill the Mothership with helium...

No. That would be wrong. Bad, Deb.

Funny, though.

I was sitting here wondering why my friends page had changed, but it wasn't inconvenient, so I wasn't going to do anything about it. Me slug.

Did you want to arrange for an overflight by Martain Defense Forces?

Or — and this would be more difficult — a visit by a Combat Rescue team of the Martian League of Assassins?

Hey, your questions prompted an idea! I must have the Combat Rescue artwork around here someplace.... What we need are a handful of Combat Rescue jackets, and a few compatriots to join me at the town's annual meeting in May....

But, yes, an overflight in the meanwhile would be most excellent indeed. Thank you!

(Thank you, too, for your most thoughtful note and the book. It's doing an excellent job of helping me think about interesting things. More on this later, or so go my intentions, at least!)

Believe it or not, I still have a handful of the original badges that members of the Combat Rescue Team wore last time they visited Earth. But jackets would be awesome.

I await with bated breath the fulfillment of your intentions...
