gerisullivan: (Skunk Cabbage Wow)

Tuesday...

On Tuesday, I opened my office window for the first time this year. It's been warm enough to the sliding door to the deck for some fresh air a couple of times, but that's different from having a window open just a few feet from my desk and sitting there, working. Especially with the deck door open, too, as that's enough for a cross-breeze.

If that wasn't enough of a sign that spring may well be on its way at last, I also sat out on the back deck for a few minutes. Why don't I do that more? It's so very pleasant.

Rain started falling shortly after midnight, just like it did the moment This April showers month began. The forecast says to expect 3 days of the wet stuff, sometimes heavy. Maybe some thunder and lightning, too.

There better be lots of flowers come May.

(No, the skunk cabbage isn't up yet. But it's the earliest spring icon I have. Well, except for the ones with snow in them and what I hope is the last of that has finally melted.)

Onward.

I hope there are LOTS of beautiful flowers for you to enjoy this May! (Maybe there are cute little toads already hopping about the underbrush in anticipation of the season.)

"Hold on... The game is being called because it's snowing down here in sunny Acapulco for the first time in a hundred and twenty years...."

"Is that official, Ed?"

"That's official."

"Are you sure?"

"That's what Uncle Wethby says!"

You know the coolest stuff! (Far beyond whatever white stuff might be in your yard now or how much ends up being there by tomorrow night.)

And, thanks to knowing you and turning to a couple of search engines, I'm now wishing I could find some actual footage of Tex Antoine & his pal doing even just one forecast. I found a commercial he did for Gaines Burgers, and one for Bufferin, too. But no forecasts.

Wow!

So that's what Uncle Wethby looks like! Cool as heck. (I never thought to use the Power of The Internets to track down an image.) Thanks Geri. BFF!

Grin. Yes, BFF! And, because we are fen, and fen correct each other to be polite, I'll mention that it's Uncle Wethbee. Lots of websites (especially auction houses) get it wrong by calling him Uncle Weatherbee, and if one were to set up an eBay search, Uncle Weatherby seems to be another common variation.

Given your wide-ranging musical taste, I'll also point you to Fine and Dandy, which is consistently reported as the theme song Tex Antoine used for his weather reports for years.

Google Image search turns up a few more images of Uncle Wethbee. It's been a fun day learning more.

Yay, Spring! We had dinner outside last week for the first time this year. Then this week we're having a cold snap, which in high desert terms means there was snow on the ground this morning but after lunch I was only slightly chilled walking outside in long pants and a tank top. People from around here had long sleeves on.

And the snow has long melted. But it's actually been a little rainy during the day, which is unusual.

Interestingly enough, in the Bay Area, where seasons are much muted, yesterday was the first "sleep with the windows open, no jackets" day.
