Yep. $57,500. Tells you something about the Michigan economy, doesn't it?
The house appears to be well-priced compared to other offerings curently on the market there. Fingers crossed it moves. There are two houses priced much higher a few blocks up the street (comparable location, not significantly better). They're completely updated inside, but they haven't moved. It's scary to think of a 1,440 square foot house as being big, but it is for the area. The major win is that it's in the best school district in town.
1440 square foot isn't that small; I think it's about the size of our house, worth, er, quite a bit more than that one. It's at times like these I think 'well, if I'm going to have a pixel-stained techno-peasant lifestyle, there may be cheaper places to do it than London'.
Whereas in the US, the average square footage of new construction has been running over 2000 square feet for the last couple of decades. That's nearly three times the size as the average in the UK, as the linked article shows.
If I wanted to live in Michigan, selling my house and buying the family home could be a huge help with my financial struggles. But I'm firmly here in Massachusetts while Gavi is in college here, and quite likely beyond then, too.
