I'm here, about to head down to the SBOF (Secret Banquet of Fandom), and to help with set-up.

[livejournal.com profile] minnehaha B&K arrived this afternoon. K & I dashed over to the Harvard Museum of Natural History to see the Glass Flowers. They remain astonishing. More info about them. I must return to the museum soon; I understand that the special Mollusk exhibit that's opening tonight features several-to-many of the Blaschka's marine invertebrates, reportedly more than I saw at the Corning Museum of Glass. I thought that might be docent pride, but Google quickly told me the Harvard collection has over 400 specimens. Wow. I was also surprised to see news of an unexpected find at the University of Wisconsin-Madison 5 years ago.

It looks like I found free street parking for the weekend on E Street, running from Fargo up to West 1st Street (right across from the hotel off D Street). No meters, no signs prohibiting parking, lots of cars parked there but several empty spaces along the way as I was looking tonight. Win.

There's also free street parking on West 1st Street, a bit between E and F, and more beyond F. Look carefully at the signs; there are some tow zones, and some temporary construction barrels prohibiting parking right now, but the area isn't restricted to residents only. West 1st Street looked a bit dodgy; I was fine tonight in the dark, but if I'd kept my car there, I would have walked back during daylight. My space on E Street is only a quarter mile from the hotel.

Onward...to fun!
