RIP: Rosalyn Yalow, 1921–2011

Ben's mother, Nobel Laureate Dr. Rosalyn Yalow, died Monday evening. The New York Times obituary went online Wednesday. It's being printed in the New York edition of Thursday's paper.

My heart and sympathy are of course with Ben and his family. It's comforting to see friends sending their condolences and support his way, and good to be able to help where I can.

I only met Ben's mother once, late in her life. During our short conversation in the family home, her pride in Ben was obvious. Likewise her appreciation of what a good son he was. I'm thankful to have heard and seen that firsthand.

I never met her, but I always thought how cool it was that she was Ben's mother. The world is an emptier place without her.
