I think you're being overly harsh on the sound crew. A good portion of the responsibility belongs to the recording devices and also to how far away her mouth was from the mic. Add to that the fact that Ranya strummed a song that Paul picks (something they couldn't have known when he okay'd that guitar during the little interchange with the guitar guy). I wouldn't expect the sound team to reset levels on the fly for such a different voice even if none of those other factors came into play. They had everything set for Paul and the set list he planned to perform. I'd love to know what they did do to accommodate the differences, especially when they had no way of knowing what she might do next, like those screams near the end.
I just wish they'd

Date: 2011-05-19 07:07 am (UTC)It's terrific, isn't it? And Paul Simon is beaming almost as much as she is. Really sweet. And I also give her a lot of credit for actually going up there and doing it - even if people were to dream of doing this (which her husband claims she did! http://www.skeedy.com/news/others/toronto/my-beautiful-wife-rayna-ford-and-paul-simon-duncan-live-at-the-sound-academy-in-toronto/1757920/), not many of them would actually either go up there or be able to perform if they did.
