The knee report
Mar. 10th, 2011 08:22 pmI was formally discharged from physical therapy today. There's a note in my file so if my knees give me problems in the next 3-4 weeks, I can call PT directly. Otherwise, I'm done until and unless I get another referral from my doctor. Here's hoping I don't need that for a long time.
Overall, PT has been a huge win. My left knee is consistently pain-free. My right knee still has a twingy, achy spot, but it's an order of magnitude better than it was. An order of magnitude and then some.
Color me sold.
The PT didn't make the osteoarthritis go away, of course. It made it a lot easier to live with. It left me with stretches and exercises that should help me manage the remaining and future symptoms, and a better understanding of what's going on.
I can think of plenty of other ways I would have liked to have spent the $1,000+ that the x-rays, diagnosis, and PT ran. Actually, I would have liked to have not spent the money at all. But that wouldn't have alleviated the pain and made it possible for me to get moving reasonably well again. As unexpected expenses go, this one at least gave excellent value in terms of results.
Onward. And up stairs, even.
