My 2011 is starting with a hat trick of conventions: Arisia, Capricon, and Boskone!
If you're going to be at Arisia, Capricon, and/or Boskone, please comment. If you're thinking about any of them, c'mon along! It's been too long since I've seen too many of you.
I'm coordinating the Fan Tables at Arisia, helping fete the FanGoHs at Cap while also doing various Chicon 7 Smof-type things, no doubt, and hosting a Poppyseed Cake Tasting & NESFA Press Book Launch tea party at Boskone. Big Fun and then some, I trust.
Thanks to excellent fares on JetBlue to Chicago and free MegaBus seats from there, I'll be in Minneapolis for a few short days in order to catch the 1-act play Gavi is directing on Friday, January 28th. Serendipitously, the timing may just coincide with a branding brainstorming meeting a new client there. Fingers crossed they like the proposal I'm working on this weekend.
Winter is far from my favorite time to spend in the midwest, but making a single, long trip is allowing me to be at both Gavi's 1-act and Capricon...and also at part of the Chicon 7 meeting the last weekend in January. There's an Chicon 7 open meeting/social gathering Saturday night, January 29th -- mark your calendars, Chicagoans and likely suspects. Location TBA; I'll be sure to post it here.
All of these plans are putting the win in winter. Whee!

Re: Cons
Date: 2010-12-17 07:35 pm (UTC)I savor the time with them, but I rely on friends' hospitality more than I'd prefer. Without it, I simply wouldn't be able to make the trip at all. But it's hard, especially since I'm not in a position to extend what I consider to be the normal thanks of taking everyone out to a nice dinner as well as bringing small prezzies, picking up groceries, helping with errands, and the other sorts of things good house guests do.

Date: 2010-12-18 12:45 am (UTC)I'm really glad I'm hearing you'll be at Cap after I know that I'm unexpectedly going to be there myself. If I'd heard back when I hadn't a thought of being there, I would have wanted to go oh, so badly.
Have I mentioned the many advantages of convention bidding lately? And how happy I am you're so involved with the London bid? 'Cause I am.

Date: 2010-12-19 05:10 pm (UTC)I am enjoying the bid, but its doing what I do reasnobley well, work with good folks, talk about an exciting oppurtunity of a con, and have a great time and talk about science fiction.
dont get much better than that.

Date: 2010-12-19 01:58 am (UTC)Will there be Hakosot?
Yep. Megabus is giving away 200,000 seats between January 12 & March 1, 2011. I had to pay their usual 50 cent booking fee, but no additional charges.

Date: 2010-12-19 03:34 pm (UTC)The Megabus website was also flaky when I booked; it took several tries and waiting awhile while the site was down for maintenance. The next day, they pulled back the reservations window to 4 weeks. Like you said, popular giveaway. Or maybe online flakiness and variable windows for booking are their norm; this will be my first time on board that particular bus.
